Formed in the 90s in Hanna, Canada, Nickelback is a legendary rock band, extremely famous worldwide and one of the representatives of the rock scene of the early 2000s. They hit the big time in 2002 with the song "How You Remind Me," which topped charts in the U.S. and Canada. Their fourth album, "The Long Road," came out in 2003 and had five singles, including the Canadian number one "Someday," which reached No. 7 on the Billboard Hot 100.
The band consists of lead guitarist and vocalist Chad Kroeger, rhythm guitarist/keyboardist/backing vocalist Ryan Peake, bassist Mike Kroeger, and drummer Daniel Adair. They had different drummers from 1995 to 2005.
Nickelback started just like any other rock band trying to make their way to success in the 90s, covering other rock bands. The band covered songs by Led Zeppelin and Metallica. Chad Kroeger borrowed CA$4,000 from his stepfather to record their first demo, a seven-track EP of original material called "Hesher," released in 96.
In 2005, Nickelback released their best-selling album yet, "All the Right Reasons." It had three top-ten and five top-twenty singles on the Billboard Hot 100, including hits like "Photograph," "Far Away," and "Rockstar," which became their biggest success in the UK.
No one will ever deny that this band is legendary. As proof of that, Nickelback is one of Canada's top-selling rock bands, with over 50 million albums sold worldwide. Billboard also ranked them as the most successful rock group of the decade. Their hit "How You Remind Me" is also an anthem for Gen-Z, and was the best-selling rock song. In 2023, Nickelback was inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame.
To promote the movie "Once Upon a Deadpool," actor Ryan Reynolds released a scene featuring the title character with actor Fred Savage. In the scene, Savage compares the film to The Beatles if they were produced by Nickelback, sparking a discussion about the band.
