From "American Idol" fourth-place finisher to rock chart dominator - that's Chris Daughtry's wild ride. After his 2006 Idol run, he didn't just start a band; he launched a rock revolution. Their self-titled debut album didn't just succeed - it became the fastest-selling debut rock album in SoundScan history, moving six million copies and proving there was life after Idol that didn't involve pop ballads. Throughout ups and downs, they proved they're way more than just another TV talent show success story, with 9 million albums and 25.6 million digital tracks sold in the US alone.
Talk about hitting the ground running - they packed their first album with hits like "It's Not Over" and "Home," even getting Slash to shred on "What I Want." The album went quadruple platinum, snagged four Grammy nods, and suddenly everyone forgot Chris was ever on a TV show.
The band kept the momentum going with "Leave This Town" in 2009, making history as the first Idol alum to score back-to-back number-one albums. But like any good rock story, there were plenty of lineup changes along the way - drummers, bassists, guitarists came and went (Josh Paul even left twice!).
After parting ways with RCA Records in 2019 after 13 years, Daughtry became independent and Chris Daughtry appeared on "The Masked Singer" as the "Rottweiler" and released their cover of Sia's "Alive." The band underwent more lineup changes, with Josh Paul leaving again in 2022 and drummer Brandon Maclin being replaced by Jeremy Schaffer in 2023.
