Shinedown Biography

Formed in Jacksonville by the singer Brent SmithShinedown is a rock band that holds the record for the most number-one singles on the Billboard Mainstream Rock charts, with 19, and all their singles have reached the top 5. While founding the band, Brent recruited Jasin Todd as guitarist, Brad Stewart on bass, and Barry Kerch on drums for the band's original lineup. A while after that, the lineup changed, but the band always kept their status as pioneers of hard rock.

The origin of the band is quite curious. Brent founded Shinedown after his previous band, Dreve, disbanded. While still signed to the record label that signed Dreve, Brent founded Shinedown. Brent first recruited bassist Brad through local producer Pete Thornton. The duo then recorded demos and brought in guitarist Jasin and drummer Barry.

The group began recording their first album, while Brent brought the label that signed his last band. The record label approved their first demos and the band launched their first album. Shinedown's debut album, "Leave a Whisper," was released in 2003. Initially, it was not an instant hit, but through extensive touring and successful singles, it eventually went platinum in the U.S. The album also contained a cover song of Lynyrd Skynyrd's "Simple Man."

With all the success of the first album, the band released the album "Us and Them," which was once again, a huge success. The band then, once again, toured like crazy, including the SnoCore Tour with Seether, Flyleaf, and Halestorm, as well as a co-headlining tour with Godsmack and Rob Zombie.

A while after that, the song "I Dare You" was performed live on American Idol by Chris Daughtry and used as a WrestleMania 22 theme song. The singles' success helped the album go platinum, with over a million copies sold.

In 2007, Shinedown started their work for their third album. Throughout problems with the record label, internal issues, and problems, the band asked the bassist, Brad, and the guitarist, Jasin, to both leave the band. With all these problems going on and struggles, only one year later, the album "The Sound of Madness" was released. Even though with the turbulence that went through the making of this album, it was a major success, selling over 50k copies only in its first week.

The other albums that came after that were also, huge successes and helped the band elevate their status in the music universe. In 2021, Brent announced the band was working on their seventh album. In 2022, Shinedown was inducted into Mohegan Sun's Walk Of Fame.
