Ariana Grande is an American singer, songwriter, and actress. She was born on June 26, 1993 in Baco Raton, Florida. Grande was born into a wealthy family with a father who worked as a top executive at a communications and safety equipment manufacturer; and a mother who owned a graphic design firm. As a child, the young Ari had ambitions to become a performer, either as a musician or a theater actress.
At age 15, she was cast in a supporting role on the Nickelodeon show Victorious, starring Victoria Justice. The show became a big hit with American teenagers. Both Justice and Grande tried to parlay that attention into a career in the music industry - however, Grande was much more successful at that.
At first, Grande sang the vocals on "Give It Up", a song on the show Victorious’ soundtrack. She also started to record covers of popular songs and upload them to YouTube. This all resulted in her releasing her first single “Put Your Hearts Up” in December 2011. Her debut studio album, entitled “Yours Truly”, came out in August 2013. It was a massive hit, reaching the top of the famous Billboard 200 chart upon release. The most successful track on it was “The Way”, featuring rapper MacMiller, whom Grande later dated for a year and a half. After its release, she went on the first ever Ariana Grande concert tour, which was called "The Listening Sesssions".
Since then, Grande has released 5 more studio albums, thus she has 6 in total. The best selling among them so far has been “My Everything” (2014), with 759,000 copies sold in the United States alone. Meanwhile, the most recent new Ariana Grande album is “Positions”, which was published in October 2020.
Ariana Grande’s biggest hits to date are “Problem” featuring Iggy Azalea (2014), “Side to Side” featuring Nicki Minaj (2016), “no tears left to cry” (2018), and "7 Rings" (2019). She was also featured on the 2014 hit single by Jessie J “Bang Bang”. In 2018, Grande was briefly engaged to comedian Pete Davidson. After the engagement was broken off, she released the song “Thank U, Next”, with the title seemingly being addressed to her former fiance. Her fifth studio album bears the same title. She later married real estate broker Dalton Gomez in 2021.
During an Ariana Grande concert in Manchester, UK in May 2017, an Islamist extremist carried out a suicide bomb attack on her audience.
