Top10 Worldwide Music Selection from Concerty - September 2022

In this article series, we share with you what songs were popular in what parts of the world month after month.

Now, without further ado, let's take a look at our September selection.

Steve Lacy - Bad Habit (UNITED STATES)

Steve Lacy was among the winners in his home country of the US last month. His new soul/R&B single “Bad Habit” charted high for the past month, even reaching the top of the famous Billboard Hot 100 at some point. It was his first ever #1 single.

This song is fresh off of his new solo album, “Gemini Rights”. Lacy’s still part of the alt R&B group The Internet, he performs the roles of the guitarist and vocalist in the band, but he also branched out to solo projects. It seems to be working out quite well for the young artists. He made some bold choices with unconventional vocal stylings on the single which may even sound flat to some - you can take a listen and judge it for yourself below.

David Guetta - I’m Good (Blue) featuring Bebe Rexha (BELGIUM)

David Guetta, the French DJ who dominated EDM in 2010’s is back with another club banger. This time, he remixes the 1998 classic by the Italian group Eiffel 65 “Blue (Da Ba Dee)”. However, he changes up the lyrics - the singer is no longer blue, the color of sadness, rather, she’s “good” and “she’s feeling all right”. That’s a lot more upbeat, not too complex message for all the people dancing to it at the club.

The vocalist on this electronic dance track is Bebe Rexha from the US. It was popular across many European countries, including Belgium - it’s no surprise they like the French DJ Guetta there as they have a large French-speaking population.

Guilherme & Benuto - Haja Colírio (BRAZIL)

Next up we have a song in the Brazilian genre of sertanejo. Translated from Portuguese, that word means “countryside”, and it does have some similarities with American country songs, mainly the prominent use of the aucistic guitar. However, it also has a unique Brazilian sound.

Brothers Guilherme Antônio and Bevenuto Machado Artioli, known as the musical duo Guilherme & Benuto are bringing that unique sound with their new single “Haja Colirio”. The young men are relatively new to the music scene, having put out their first EP in March 2019, and not even producing a full studio album yet. However, we can safely conclude that their career is off to a promising start.

Noa Kirel - פנתרה (ISRAEL)

Don’t get confused, the Hebrew writing in the title simply means “Panther”. The young Israeli pop artist’s new single is produced by Ron Biton and Yarden “Jordi” Peleg. She puts on a minimalis, but well-sounding vocal performance over a very distinctly sounding beat - and if that’s not enough, she also shows off some of her skills with a soccer ball in the video.

Cairokee - James Dean (EGYPT)

In neighboring Egypt, rock was the winning genre, with the band Cairokee’s song “James Dean”. Cairokee rose to prominence during the Egyptian Revolution of 2011, inspiring many of the rebels and protesters with their music. They’re still around, putting out chart toppers in their native African country from time to time.

This new single by the Egyptian rock stars pays homage to James Dean, the American movie star from the 1950’s. His best known work is the 1955 drama “Rebel Without a Cause”, shortly after which he sadly passed away at just age 24.

BLACKPINK - Shut Down (SOUTH KOREA)

The ultrapopular K-pop girl group BLACKPINK has done it again. This new single, off of their second studio album “BORN PINK” has hit number 1 on the Korean charts. In a unique blend of genres and time periods, the electro-hip hop song “Shut Down” heavily samples the Grandes études “La Campanella” by 19th Century Hungarian composer Ferenc Liszt, originally written for world-famous Italian violin virtuoso Niccolo Paganini.

Rema - Calm Down feat. Selena Gomez (UNITED ARAB EMIREATES)

After shutting down with BLACKPINK, get ready to also calm down with the Nigerian singer-rapper Rema and American pop superstar Selena Gomez. Together, they just released the Afropop song “Calm Down”, which was popular in many countries around the world, including the United Arab Emirates.

Beathoven - PRIMADONNA (NORWAY)

Up north in Norway, this electro-pop song by the band Beathoven has been one of the hits for the month. This band is quite mysterious, with a group of anonymous musicians putting out some bangers every now and then. In their promotional materials, we usually see three masked women, however, on this track, we can clearly hear male vocals singing in Norwegian about a “primadonna girl” and her grandiose lifestyle.

Adie - Mahika featuring Janine Berdin (PHILIPPINES)

The Filippino musician Adie Garcia’s new song “Mahika” also became a hit. It stayed high on the Spotify charts in the Philippines for the whole month of September. It also features Janine Berdin, a young and petite female singer also from the Philippines.

Manuel Turizo - La Bachata (GUATEMALA)

In the Central American nation of Guatemala, Colombian reggaeton singer Manuel Turizo was very popular with his new hit single “La Bachata”. The title refers to a popular Latin music genre and dance style that originated in the Dominican Republic.

And the song “does what it says on the tin”, as this is in fact a bachata song. Turizo has said that he’s been a fan of the genre since he was little that’s why he decided to make this song. He even told Billboard Magazine after his new release that he’s sure this won’t be his last single in this style.

We hope we managed to bring to your attention at least one artist from somewhere around the world that you enjoyed, and you would not have heard their music otherwise. Please be sure to listen to our Spotify playlist linked below.
