About Kuala Lumpur

MUSIC

Kuala Lumpur is the capital city of Malaysia and is home to some amazing artists and musicians, such as Jaclyn Victor, a renowned singer, songwriter, actress, and businesswoman, who first captured the spotlight by winning the inaugural Malaysian Idol. Her talent has since shone through in subsequent triumphs, including victories in Ikon Malaysia and Gegar Vaganza Season 9. Securing a recording contract with Sony BMG Music Entertainment as the Malaysian Idol champion marked the beginning of her musical journey. She also represented Malaysia in the inaugural Asian Idol and Ikon Asean, in which she earned the title of "Asia's Divette" and stands as a legend in the Malaysian entertainment scene.

Another music star from Kuala Lumpur is Shila Amzah, the R&B and pop rock artist has the title of "Most Popular Female Artist Online (Malaysia)."

The rock band Disagree also helped to create Kuala Lumpur's rock/heavy metal scene. In 1995, the band emerged on the music scene through the collaborative efforts of two high-school students, Zahid and Hamka. The quartet, also comprising members Dann and Amir, embarked on their musical journey by performing across Kuala Lumpur. Their inaugural demo, "Never Cry Wolf," was recorded in 1996 at Bach & Traz studio, an experience marked by a poignant note as they happened to be the studio's final recording artists before its closure a mere week later. Despite this challenge, the band persevered, managing to capture 10 songs during the session, of which two endured as a testament to their dedication amidst a backdrop of frequent live performances.

HISTORY

Kuala Lumpur shares its borders with neighboring cities such as Petaling Jaya, Ampang, Shah Alam, and Subang Jaya, forming the metropolitan region of Malaysia.

The city's origins can be traced to the 19th century when it was founded by tin miners from China. Over the years, Kuala Lumpur grew from a small settlement into an important trading hub.

During the British colonial era, Kuala Lumpur experienced significant development and modernization. The city became the capital of the Federated Malay States in 1896 and continued to expand as a center for commerce and administration. After gaining independence in 1957, Kuala Lumpur emerged as the capital of Malaysia, solidifying its position as a political, economic, and cultural hub.
