Sepultura Biography

Sepultura is a Brazilian heavy metal band, originated in Belo Horizonte, Minas Gerais, in 1984. The band's original lineup included brothers Max and Igor Cavalera, Paulo Jr., and Andreas Kisser. Sepultura is known for their influential contributions to the thrash metal and groove metal genres, combining aggressive, politically-charged lyrics with powerful, intricate musical compositions.

The band garnered widespread attention and acclaim through their relentless dedication to their craft, culminating in the release of their album "Beneath the Remains" in 1989. This pivotal release solidified their place in the metal scene and propelled them to international recognition. Additionally, their subsequent albums, such as "Arise" and "Chaos A.D.," further expanded their reach and showcased their ability to push the boundaries of extreme metal.

Sepultura's discography boasts an array of iconic songs that have left an indelible mark on the metal genre, including "Roots Bloody Roots," "Refuse/Resist," and "Territory." These tracks epitomize the band's signature blend of ferocious instrumentation and socially conscious themes, resonating with audiences and cementing their status as pioneers within the heavy metal landscape. Furthermore, albums like "Roots" and "Chaos A.D." stand as monumental achievements, underscoring Sepultura's enduring influence and impact on the global metal community.

In January 1991, Sepultura performed for an audience of over 100,000 people at the Rock in Rio Festival. Having relocated from their native Brazil to Phoenix, Arizona in 1990, the band secured new management and recorded the album "Arise" at Morrisound Studios in Tampa, Florida. Following the album's release, Sepultura embarked on an extensive tour throughout 1991 and 1992 to support the album.

In 1996, the band found itself reduced to a three-piece lineup, with Andreas Kisser assuming lead vocals, as Max Cavalera left the concert site earlier in the day upon learning of the death of his stepson, Dana Wells, in a car accident. After completing Dana Wells' funeral, Max returned and resumed touring with Sepultura. A few months following Wells' tragic death, the band held a meeting with Max, expressing their desire to dismiss their manager, Gloria Bujnowski, who was both Max's wife and Dana's mother, and seek new management. Their rationale was that Bujnowski was allegedly favoring Max while neglecting the rest of the band.

In 2011, Sepultura underwent significant changes, with drummer Jean Dolabella leaving the band after Wacken Open Air, replaced by Eloy Casagrande. Various milestones followed, including the announcement of a biography, "Relentless – 30 Years of Sepultura," and the release of the thirteenth album, "The Mediator Between Head and Hands Must Be the Heart."

On December 8, 2023, the band revealed plans for a farewell tour in 2024, marking their 40th anniversary. This conclusive 18-month tour signifies Sepultura's disbandment in 2025.

      And the problem is?

    • 18 Mar 2024, 21:03 georgemiyahara6576 says:

No problems at all. I'm just saying people that love the old sepultura is the most common thing nowadays.

    • 19 Mar 2024, 13:47 brianm8611 says:

It's not that i love the old sepultura, the thing is that i don't support the "new" sepultura. Not because of anything technical, but because of what happened and the way max and igor were forced to leave their OWN band.

    • 19 Mar 2024, 16:30 paulk3 says:

They were not forced to leave the band, dude. Max and igor left at their own will, everybody knows that

    • 19 Mar 2024, 21:57 georgemiyahara6576 says:

Not only that, but max's wife were screwing things over..

    • 20 Mar 2024, 2:22 brianm8611 says:

I was already a Sepultura fan at that time. I was getting all my information from reliable sources, and I know what the other members did to force them out of the band

Say whatever you want to say, I have my point.

    • 05 Mar 2024, 9:29 gomezzz01 says:

Alethea, Vandals Nest, Sworn Oath, so many to choose from

    • 06 Mar 2024, 7:32 wkererthi says:

I really like Dante XI the most, though I also enjoy "Phantom Self" and "Age of the Atheist" from the same album. Overall, it's a strong album. I like the music with a good melody, but Sepultura's heaviness is almost too much for me. They're the only band this heavy that I like, although I do enjoy a few songs by Slayer too.

    • 06 Mar 2024, 10:09 collazohec says:

      Both are just great!

    • 06 Mar 2024, 13:45 wkererthi says:

      No doubts, man!
