Anthrax gained fame and recognition through their relentless touring, and the release of influential albums such as "Among the Living," "Spreading the Disease," and "Persistence of Time." Their unique blend of aggressive guitar riffs and drumming propelled them into the forefront of the thrash metal movement during the 1980s and 1990s.

According to Nielsen SoundScan, Anthrax sold 2.5 million records in the United States between 1991 and 2004, with a total of 10 million records sold worldwide.

Anthrax has drawn inspiration from a range of musical styles, including classic rock and hard rock. Acts like AC/DC, Kiss, Queen, and Journey have influenced them. Anthrax even covered songs by these artists on their EP titled "Anthems."
