Born in Istanbul, Turkey, Gülşen Çolakoğlu, also known by her stage name, Gülşen, is a singer very famous within the Turkish music and pop music communities. She gained fame with her debut album "Be Adam" in 1996. Despite a break, she returned with hits like "Of... Of..." in 2004, and successful albums such as "Yurtta Aşk Cihanda Aşk" (2006), and "Beni Durdursan mı?" (2013).
Raised as the youngest of three, Gülşen once stated that she had a very difficult childhood and even had to learn karate to defend herself during high school. Following her education in music studies in Istanbul, she delved into performing at venues across the city.
After signing with a record label in 95, Gülşen released her debut album "Be Adam" (one year later), featuring the single "Gel Çarem." The album, praised for her ambitious start, led to her being known as the "pajama girl" due to her attire in the music videos. Following this, she took a break from her career after getting married.
Gülşen's fourth studio album, "Of... Of..." (2004), was also extremely important to her career. The album sold over 300k copies in Turkey, and earned her the title of Best Female Pop Singer at the 11th Turkey Music Awards. This release propelled Gülşen to stardom, with her hit song "Of Of" winning Song of the Year. The album's led to some music videos like for the one for the single "Sarışınım," which despite being super successful, had some controversy for allegedly being "erotic."
In early 2007, Gülşen embarked on a new musical journey by signing with Ercan Saatçi's Rec by Saatchi for three upcoming albums, after failed negotiations with Erol Köse. Despite this, Köse's company released Gülşen's previously recorded album "Mucize" in 2007, leading to legal action from Gülşen to reclaim control over her work.
Her sixth studio album, "Ama Bir Farkla," released still in 2007, had some hit songs. During this time, Gülşen was romantically linked with architect Fahrettin Aykut and engaged in public disputes with fellow artists, including an incident at a casino that raised safety concerns, though details surrounding an alleged assault were called into question by media outlets.
In 2018, Gülşen featured on Yıldız Tilbe's album with the track "Delikanlım" and teased her upcoming tenth studio album by dropping the single "Bir İhtimal Biliyorum." The song quickly soared to the top of Turkey's digital sales charts, holding the number one spot for thirteen weeks straight and becoming a massive hit. Gülşen further solidified her musical prowess by being the most streamed female artist in Turkey in the first half of 2019. Additionally, her collaboration with Edis on "Nirvana" was released in 2020.
