Chris Stapleton is an American singer, songwriter, guitarist, and music producer. He was born on April 15, 1978, in Lexington, Kentucky. Stapleton studied engineering in college but dropped out before graduating. He was 23 when he moved to Nashville, Tennessee, the biggest hub in country music, to pursue his career as a musician. Soon after, he was signed by the Sea Gayle Music label as a songwriter.
He wrote plenty of hits for other artists, including “Never Wanted Nothing More” for Kenny Chesney (2007), and “Drink a Beer” for Luke Bryan (2013), among others. He also co-wrote songs with such big stars as Ed Sheeran, Justin Timberlake, and Sheryl Crow. As for his career as a performer, he was a member of the bluegrass group "The SteelDriver" between 2007 and 2010; and founded the Southern rock group "The Jompson Brothers" which existed between 2010 and 2013.
In 2013, Stapleton signed his first solo deal. His debut solo studio album was released in May 2015, with the title “Traveller”. The publishing label was Mercury Nashville. It reached the #1 spot on the Billboard 100 list and won a Grammy Award in the Best Country Music Album category, while also being nominated in the overall Best Album category. The biggest hit on the tracklist was “Tennessee Whiskey”. Soon thereafter, he embarked on the first ever Chris Stapleton concert tour.
Since then, the country music star has released three more solo albums. They were "From a Room: Volume 1" (2017), "From a Room: Volume 2" (also 2017), and the new Chris Stapleton album "Starting Over" (2020). The best selling title of these was "From a Room: Volume 1", with nearly 1 million copies bought in the United States alone.
The biggest hits in the Chris Stapleton setlist to date are the aforementioned “Tennessee Whiskey” (2015), "Fire Away" (2016), and "Broken Halos" (2017). On top of all that, he was also featured on Justin Timberlake’s 2018 hit single “Say Something”. Stapleton’s music style is “a blend of country, classic rock and Southern soul”, as NPR and Paste Magazine have described it. That’s why a good Chris Stapleton concert continues to be popular even among audiences who wouldn’t necessarily describe themselves as country music fans.
