Jamey Johnson is an American country singer and songwriter. He was born on July 14, 1975 in Enterprise,Alabama. Growing up in Alabama, he was a big fan of Southern country stars like Alan Jackson. After high school, he attended Jacksonville State University where he was a member of the marching band. However, he dropped out and joined the Marine Reserves. At the same time, he started playing country music and doing early Jamey Johnson concert shows in the Montgomery area whenever he was at home.
In 2000, he moved to the country music capital of the world, Nashville, Tennessee. He knew fiddler Greg Perlins there, who set up a demo tape recording session for him, with Gretchen Wilson as a duet partner. Soon after, Johnson got signed as a songwriter. He co-wrote the 2005 song “Honky Tonk Badonkadonk” by Trace Adkins. The same year, Johnson’s own debut single also came out, titled “The Dollar”. His debut album bore the same name, which was published in January 2006. However, his second single off of the record was a commercial flop, resulting in him losing his contract with the label BNA. The depressed Johnson even ended up divorcing his wife after the unfortunate incident.
However, in August 2008, Mercury Records gave him a second chance, with the release of a new Jamey Johnson album with the title “That Lonesome Song”. It was worth it, as the record ended up peaking at the #6 spot on Billboard’s country music chart, while also reaching the #28 spot on the overall Billboard 200 chart.
Since then, Johnson has released 2 more studio albums, thus he has 4 in total. The best selling one among them is the aforementioned “That Lonesome Song” from 2008, which sold over 1 million copies in the US. Meanwhile, the latest Jamey Johnson album came out in October 2012, with the title “Living for a Song: A Tribute to Hank Cochran”. After a dispute with his label, he decided to found his own music company, but the release of new music from him has largely decreased since.
The biggest hits in the Jamey Johnson setlist to date are “Lead Me Home” (2006), “In Color” (2008), “HighCost of Living” (also 2008), and “My Way to You” (2010). Check where the next Jamey Johnson concert is playing near you on our page above.
