Crossover refers to the merging of two or more distinct genres or styles of music, it is also used to describe musical works or performers that resonate with diverse audience types, often evidenced, especially in the United States, when a song simultaneously appears on multiple record charts that track distinct musical styles or genres. In various settings, the term "crossover" may carry negative implications linked to cultural appropriation, suggesting the modification of a music genre's unique features to cater to broader preferences. A case in point is the early era of rock n' roll, where songs initially recorded by African-American musicians underwent reinterpretation by artists like Pat Boone, adopting a more subdued style and, at times, altered lyrics, ultimately losing the original versions' raw intensity. Over the years, many artists, from the mainstream and underground did some pretty successful crossovers, like Justin Bieber, Metallica, Ed Sheeran, and more.

MUSICALITY

Musically, crossover incorporates elements from multiple genres, often fusing contrasting styles to create a hybrid sound. This blending can occur between various genres such as pop, rock, hip-hop, R&B, country, jazz, classical, and more.

THEMES

The themes explored in crossover music are often relatable and resonate with a broad audience. The genre provides a platform for artists to express themselves, share their unique perspectives, and bridge gaps between different cultures, communities, and musical traditions.
