Held in Gampel, Switzerland, Gampel Open Air, or Openair Gambel, is a rock and pop music festival very known in Switzerland. In 1986, the first rock festival in Gampel was organized by the rock band Family Force and the music equipment company FREEPOWER MUSIC. The festival, intended to showcase Family Force's musical skills, lasted one day and was held at the old sports field in Gampel, with a truck trailer serving as an improvised stage. Despite the rain, 500 people attended.
Fast forward to 2013, bands like Tenacious D, Biffy Clyro, and Billy Talent performed at the event. The organizers also brought bands like Kodaline, from Ireland, and the Lower Valais sound engineers Kyasma. The organizers were satisfied with the event, registering a total of 86400 visitors over four days, and noted that the open-air festival was very peaceful and relaxed.
After the 2020 edition was cancelled, the 35th Open Air Gampel finally took place peacefully and incident-free, adhering to strict safety regulations. Over three days, more than 25 bands, 50 DJs, and around 30000 attendees partied at the event.
Over the festival editions, heavy-weight artists and groups, such as Yungblud, The Offspring, Macklemore, and others, performed on the stages.
