Robbie Williams Biography

Born in Stoke-on-Trent, UK, Robbie Williams is a singer famous not only for being part of the group Take That, but also for his successful solo career. Robbie was part of the band from 90 to 95, and then from 96, he started his solo career. His solo career's debut album, "Life thru a Lens," was released one year after his debut. Robbie has also achieved seven UK No. 1 singles and 13 No. 1 albums, with sales exceeding 20 million albums and 9.2 million singles in the UK alone, as of today.

In 1990, Robbie, at sixteen, became the youngest member of Take That after his mother encouraged him to audition. He sang lead on hits like "Could It Be Magic," but clashed with the group over his interest in hip hop and his growing drug use, which led to tensions.

By 1995, after a confrontation with bandmates over his behavior, Robbie agreed to leave Take That. The group continued without him, completing their tour before splitting in 1996. Williams faced legal battles to start a solo career due to contract issues but eventually signed with a record label in 96, and launched his solo career.

Robbie started his solo career with a cover of George Michael's "Freedom," which hit number two on the UK Singles Chart. His second album, called, "I've Been Expecting You," debuted at number one on the UK Albums Chart in 1998. The album's lead single, "Millennium," was Robbie's first UK solo number one and became a top twenty hit internationally.

By 99, Robbie released "The Ego Has Landed," and went on a U.S. tour to promote it. While touring, he started his third album, called "Sing When You're Winning." The first single, "Rock DJ," became a hit despite its controversial video. The album, released in 2000, topped charts and went 2× Platinum in the UK.

Fast forward to 2010, Robbie released "In and Out of Consciousness: The Greatest Hits 1990–2010" to celebrate his 20 years on the road. The album included the single "Shame," a duet with Gary Barlow. One year later, Robbie signed with a new record label, and opened the Diamond Jubilee Concert outside Buckingham Palace, in London. His album "Take the Crown" was released in 2012, debuting at number one on the UK Albums Chart.

4 years later, in 2016, Robbie released "The Heavy Entertainment Show," which became his 12th UK number-one album, and only one year later, he announced and later released "Under the Radar Volume 2," with a third edition following Valentine's Day 2019.

Other than Robbie's extremely successful career, he proved to be a very smart entrepreneur. In 2011, Robbie announced he was collaborating with entrepreneur Peter Jones to develop a clothing line called Farrell, named after his grandfather Jack Farrell. Although the business initially filed for bankruptcy, it was relaunched in 2014 with the support of clothing company Primark.
