Known for creating the U.S. success series, Atlanta, and for the hit "This is America," Donald Glover, also known by his stage name, Childish Gambino, is a very talented rapper, actor, and director. Glover started to get attention with the series "Community" in 2009. At that time he was only 23 years old. Later, with his career in the rap industry also getting attention all over the world, Glover appeared in films like "Solo: A Star Wars Story," and "The Martian." Something very interesting that you might not know is that Glover even inspired the character Miles Morales, from the Marvel's Spider-Man universe.
Glover was born in California, at an Air Force Base, but he was raised in Georgia, in the city of Stone Mountain. Glover's parents had very "normal" jobs, but Glover decided that he had a particular love for arts, so he graduated from the famous NYU's Tisch School of the Arts in New York. While in college, Glover produced a mixtape and even had some side hustles as a DJ at some parties.
In 2006, Glover caught the attention of David Miner and Tina Fey, both producers, with a spec script for "The Simpsons," leading to a writing job on "30 Rock" until 2009. Glover was part of the sketch group Derrick Comedy, which made the film "Mystery Team" that premiered at Sundance in 2009. At that time, he starred in the series "Community."
While acting and serving as a very creative mind for series and TV shows, in 2018, Glover signed with a major record label and released the worldwide known single, "This is America." The rap/hip-hop song incredibly debuted at number one on many platforms and charts. "This is America" had a very particular theme; it addressed topics like gun violence and being black in the United Stated. The video clip caught the attention of the public even more, which was Glover's main goal. The video featured Glover shooting at a choir. The song was such a hit that won Grammys for Song of the Year, Best Music Video, Best Rap/Sung Performance, and Record of the Year.
In 2021, Glover signed a deal with Amazon and announced a reboot of "Mr. & Mrs. Smith." One year later, in 2022, seasons 3 and 4 of "Atlanta" were also completed, making his fans happy. By that time, with Glover in the spotlight, he also announced Disney+ Star Wars series about Lando Calrissian and a Spider-Man universe film about Hypno-Hustler. He created the TV series "Swarm," starring Dominique Fishback, Damson Idris, and Chloe Bailey, marking his first project with Amazon Studios.
"This is America," was not Glover, or better, Childish Gambino's only success. His album "Because the Internet" of 2013, featured the hit single "3005." The 2016 song "Redbone" from his third album "Awaken, My Love!" also won a Grammy.
