Crown Magnetar is not your ordinary deathcore band. We're not just talking about brutal riffs, heavy breakdowns, vocals, and an evil sound; we're talking about a revolution in the deathcore genre and at the right time. Deathcore is on the rise, and Crown Magnetar is bringing a lot to the table. The band isn't reinventing the genre, but they're opening new horizons for deathcore with a purely brutal and technical style.

We’ve talked with Dan Tucker, singer and frontman of Crown Magnetar. As always, we’ve discussed about everything from the past, present, and future of the band.

An Overview of 2023 and Influences

CONCERTY: As we step into 2024, we are certain that you all have new plans and new journeys ahead. But before we delve into that, let's take a moment to think about 2023. When you reflect on everything that happened last year, can you sum it up in just one word and explain why?

DAN TUCKER: If we had to sum up 2023 with one word it would be elevating. The reception from our second full-length, “Everything Bleeds” was extremely positive and created a lot of opportunities for us. Between the release, multiple tours and festival appearances, 2023 was our most successful year yet and we’re looking to build on that.

Crown Magnetar has been performing a series of concerts and music festivals throughout 2023. In our opinion, one of the most iconic was their appearance at Chaos @ Carnage 2023. You know a band is not messing around when their delivery is flawless even live. Absolutely brutal.

CONCERTY: We've talked to some bands over the years, and we find it really surprising that the more extreme the music the band plays, the more eclectic and open-minded the band tends to be. We've seen some extreme metal bands drawing inspiration from dubstep, trap, thrash metal, and groove metal. How does this work for you guys? Can you share some of your influences?

DAN: As a band, we all definitely have a really eclectic music taste- from 80’s to jazz and pop. But I wouldn’t say we really take much influence from this with our music. Whenever we write we aim to keep it fresh and to deliver a product that will be a level up from our previous release. We also experiment with other elements of extreme metal that we all personally want to incorporate into our music.

It's incredible to see how bands are increasingly embracing new styles. That's the beauty of creativity. We recently spoke with the metalcore band AXTY, and they mentioned how they draw inspiration from electronic music and other genres. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean the band will start making EDM songs, but knowing they're influenced by modern genres is a promising sign that they're likely to release some great music.

CONCERTY: In the same vein, do you believe it's now past the time when extreme music bands must be inspired by other OG bands? Or is it always good to draw some "Old Death Metal-inspiration" before writing?

DAN: I think there’s many great heavy bands in the scene that don’t have any og or death metal influence and that’s awesome. It keeps things dynamic and gives something for everyone who loves metal (and outsiders) to enjoy. The elitist mindset is really lame and just creates separation. It’s a very positive thing that there are so many varieties of bands touring together and staying active.

The Internet and Everything Bleeds

CONCERTY: Of course, we did some research, and, well, the internet loves you guys. Mainly on Reddit. How's your relationship with these internet fans? Do you guys also feel this love?

DAN: We have awesome fans online, at shows and everywhere in between. And yes absolutely, a couple of us are pretty active on Reddit and it’s a great way to be more personal with fans and just be involved more!

As an internet company, we value online opinions highly, and it's clear that Crown Magnetar is making a significant impact. Reddit and other forums are absolutely loving the band. With Deathcore gaining momentum, we've noticed numerous positive comments about them.

CONCERTY: Speaking about "Everything Bleeds," an extremely technical album, that we are sure of. How do you perceive the results today? Is it as you expected?

DAN: I think when we were writing “Everything Bleeds” we knew it was a step forward in every way for us. We spent a lot of time refining the songs to make it just as we wanted it. We think the record gave our OG fans another dose of what we do best and we had some songs and elements that were a bit out of the box for us, but we’re more listenable overall. We wanted to make a more dynamic record and I think that’s exactly what we delivered to our fans.

"Everything Bleeds" delivers an intense, high-speed deathcore filled with intricate technical elements. It not only continues the raw heaviness of the "Alone In Death" EP but also elevates it to new heights.

CONCERTY: Just an off-topic question: Everything Bleed's album cover is just insane, easily one of the best in the genre. Could you share with us how the process of creating it was?

DAN: For the last few years we have worked with Caelan Stokkermans for our album art. Working with him has been a great experience and he is undoubtedly a legend in the metal scene for his art. It was really a collaborative effort when creating the art for “Everything Bleeds”. We wanted to stay in the same realm we had been with our previous art, but really just have a vibe of intensity and pain with it, which is what we wanted to portray in our songs.

2024 And Upcoming Projects

CONCERTY: You guys will be on a Europe/UK tour with some other killer bands starting from March. Are you guys excited for that?

DAN: Yes! We are headed to EU/UK in a week to begin the “Angels & Villains” tour with Attila, Born of Osiris & Aviana. First show is March 7th. For our first tour overseas as a band we couldn’t be more stoked. Feels good to finally bring Crown over there and meet the fans we have there.

For those who don’t know, Attila and Born Of Osiris will co-headline "The Angels & Villains Tour" this year. Crown Magnetar and Aviana will be joining the European/UK trek, you can check all the upcoming dates by clicking here.

CONCERTY: Lastly, could you share what fans can expect in 2024?

DAN: As for this year, we have the EU/UK tour, followed by the “Death: An Anthology” US tour supporting our good friends in Enterprise Earth, we have a lot things still unannounced and we are deep in the process of writing LP3. We are sure 2024 will be another killer year for Crown Magnetar.

If you're already a fan of Crown Magnetar, you know exactly what we're talking about. But if you're just discovering the band, remember, this isn't something you come across every day. These guys are truly making a mark in the tech deathcore/deathcore scene.

We wish the band all the best for their 2024 tours and upcoming projects!
