Born in New York City, USA, Romeo Santos is a singer very known within the bachata and Latino genres. Romeo also became really famous as the frontman of the bachata band Aventura. Their song "Obsesión" topped Italy's charts for 16 weeks in 2002. After Aventura disbanded, Romeo decided to go solo, which turned out to be a very smart decision for the pop star, achieving seven number-one hits on Billboard's Hot Latin Songs and seventeen on the Tropical Airplay chart. He has sold over 24 million records globally, solidifying his status as one of the top-selling Latin artists ever.
Romeo's dad worked in construction, trying hard to support the family. His mom stayed home to take care of him and his siblings. Santos went to public school in The Bronx and started singing in church when he was young. He learned about Latin music like salsa, merengue, and bachata early on because his parents loved listening to it.
Romeo Santos led Aventura, formed in 1994 with Henry Santos, Lenny Santos, and Max Santos. Originally Los Tinellers, they met Elvin Polanco in 1995 for their first album "Trampa de Amor". After changes, Julio César García managed and rebranded them as Aventura in 3 years later. Their debut album "Generation Next" in 1999 mixed bachata with hip hop and R&B, featuring the hit "Cuándo Volverás". "Obsesión" from "We Broke the Rules" in 2002 made them international stars.
In 2011, Romeo left Aventura to pursue a solo career, signing with Sony Music Latin. His debut single "You" topped the Hot Latin and Tropical Songs charts. His collaboration with Usher, "Promise," also reached number 1 on several Latin charts and was certified Diamond in the U.S. Romeo released his first album, "Formula, Vol. 1," in 2011, featuring collaborations with Usher, Mala Rodríguez, and others.
In 2013, Romeo Santos released "Propuesta Indecente," the lead single from his second album. It topped the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart in the U.S. One year later, his second single "Odio," featuring the rapper Drake, became his highest-charting Billboard Hot 100 hit. Romeo's album "Formula, Vol. 2," released in 2014, featured collaborations with Drake, Nicki Minaj, and others, becoming the best-selling Latin album of the year and the decade according to Billboard.
In 2017, Romeo Santos released "Héroe Favorito," the lead single from his third studio album "Golden." The song debuted at number 2 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart and reached number 1 on both the Billboard Latin Airplay and Tropical Airplay charts.
In 2022, Romeo announced his new album, "Formula, Vol. 3," marking the continuation of his renowned "Formula" series. Initially unexpected after his third and fourth studio albums, "Golden" and "Utopía," this release delighted fans. The album's first single, "Sus Huellas," debuted to success, reaching number 10 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart and number 1 on both the Billboard Latin and Tropical Airplay charts.
In 2024, Romeo teased an upcoming announcement on social media, followed by Aventura's reunion video the next day. They announced tour dates for their final tour, "Cerrando Ciclos." In April, 2024, they released "Brindo Con Agua," their first single since 2021 and first bachata song since 2019. The track features Henry as the lead vocalist and serves as the lead single for his upcoming album "2.0," scheduled for release in 2024. Speculation persists about a new group album, but nothing has been officially confirmed.
