Born in New York City, USA, Geethali Norah Jones Shankar, also known by her stage name, Norah Jones, is an acclaimed singer, songwriter, and pianist. She has sold over 50 million records and won nine Grammy Awards. Her 2002 debut album, "Come Away with Me," sold over 27 million copies and earned her five Grammys. Norah's next albums also went platinum. She acted in the 2007 film "My Blueberry Nights."
Norah is the daughter of American concert producer Sue Jones and Indian musician Ravi Shankar. After her parents separated in 1986, she moved to Grapevine, Texas, with her mother. She sang in church, took piano and voice lessons, and played the alto saxophone in school.
In 2007, Norah released her third album, "Not Too Late," for which she wrote or co-wrote every song. Norah noted that this album features darker themes compared to her previous work. It was mostly recorded in her home studio and was her first album without producer Arif Mardin, who passed away in 2006.
Norah's fourth studio album, "The Fall," was released in 2009 and debuted at No. 3 on the Billboard 200, selling 180,000 copies in its first week. Though it was her first album not to reach No. 1 in the U.S., it received critical acclaim.
Norah released her sixth studio album, "Day Breaks," in 2016. It features nine new songs and three cover versions. The lead single, "Carry On," was also released digitally on the same day.
In 2024, Norah released her ninth studio album, "Visions," produced by Leon Michels. The Los Angeles Times described the album as "a funky, gently psychedelic garage-soul record."
