Maverick City Music Concerts

Maverick City Music is a contemporary gospel music group. They were formed in 2018 in Atlanta, Georgia. The group’s founders were Tony Brown and Jonathan Jay, both songwriters.

Brown and Jay, who were writing for another gospel group, “Housefires” at the time, decided to host a series of songwriting boot camps for contemporary Christian musicians in the summer of 2018. More than a hundred artists attended these events. The two founders released an EP (Extended Play) from the songs that were produced by the attendees. That record came out in July 2019, with the title “Maverick City, Vol. 1”. It became a moderate hit, reaching the #10 spot on Billboard’s Top Gospel Albums chart. Encouraged by the relative success, they put out a follow-up EP that November.

Their debut album came out in April 2020, a record of live Maverick City Music concert performances, with the title “Maverick City Vol. 3 Part 1”. This record also sold quite well, peaking at the #6 spot on Billboard’s Christian Albums chart. Since Maverick City Music has a constantly fluctuating line-up of 7 to 9 musicians, they are able to put out records at a lot faster pace than a traditional band. Since April 2020, they have released a total of 11 live performance albums. The highest charting one among them is “Old Church Basement” featuring Elevation Worship from April 2021, which peaked at #30 on the famous Billboard 200 chart in the US. Meanwhile, the latest new Maverick City Music album came out in June 2022, titled “Kingdom Book One” and featuring singer Kirk Franklin.

The Christian music group went on their first nationwide Maverick City Music concert tour in 2021, the “Welcome to Maverick City Tour”. The biggest Maverick City Music hits to date are “Refiner” (2019) featuring Chandler Moore and Steffany Gretzinger, “Most Beautiful / So In Love” (also 2019) also featuring Chandler Moore, and “Promises” (2020) featuring Joe L Barnes and Naomi Raine.
