Maren Morris is an American singer and songwriter. She was born on April 10, 1990 in Arlington, Texas. Growing up, Morris spent a lot of time in her parents’ hair salon (which is still in operation in Arlington). She discovered her natural ability to sing during a karaoke night in the venue. She joined the school choir and started performing the earliest versions of a Maren Morris concert in small venues around the state of Texas.
At 15, she was selected to be part of a summer music training program sponsored by the Grammy Foundation. In 2005, still only 15, she released her debut album with the title “Walk On”. However, it wasn’t a major production and never saw any significant commercial success. It was released by the indie label Mozzi Bozzi, and was completely funded by her parents. She put out two more records, “All That It Takes” and “Live Wire”, in the same manner. In the meantime, she auditioned and got rejected on a number of famous reality-talent shows, such as American Idol, The Voice, and America’s Got Talent.
Her fortune changed after she decided to move from Texas to the country music capital of the world, Nashville, Tennessee. In 2015, she released a self-titled EP (Extended Play), “Maren Morris”, which went viral on the music streaming platform Spotify. As a result, she got signed by the major label Columbia Records who also re-produced and re-released the 5 songs included in her EP. The biggest hit out of the 5 singles was “My Church”.
The first professionally produced album by Morris came out in June 2016, with the title “Hero”. It became a massive hit, topping Billboard’s country music charts, while also reaching the #5 spot on the famous overall Billboard 200 chart. Since then, the Texan country star has released 2 more albums, thus she has 6 in total. The best selling one among them has remained her 4th one, “Hero” from 2016, which sold over 1 million copies. Meanwhile, the latest new Maren Morris album came out in March 2022, with the title “Humble Quest”.
The biggest hits in the Maren Morris setlist to date are the aforementioned “My Church” (2015), “The Bones” (2019), and “Chasing After You” (2021) featuring her husband Ryan Hurd. She was also featured on the 2018 hit single “The Middle” by Russian-German pop artist Zedd, along with the EDM duo “Grey”.
