Fatih Karaca, better known by his stage name Mabel Matiz, is a Turkish pop singer and songwriter. He was born on August 31, 1985 in Mersin, Turkey. As a child, he had a severe stutter that made it hard to express himself. So, he turned to writing, then music to help boost his self-esteem. He started listening to the mainstream Turkish pop of the 1980’s and 90’s, mainly Sezen Aksu’s songs. By high school, he successfully cured his stuttering, and even played a leading role in a theater production. He went to Istanbul University where he got a degree in dentistry.
He also performed the earliest versions of a Mabel Matiz concert in his college years, with a group performing cover songs. He also started writing original compositions. In 2008, Matiz started uploading his music to the late social media site MySpace. That is where he was discovered by Turkish music producer Engin Akıncı. His self-titled debut album, “Mabel Matiz”, came out in May 2011 through the label Esen Müzik. The first part of his pseudonym, “Mabel”, is based on the nickname of the character “Tuna” in the novel “Kumral Ada Mavi Tuna” by Buket Uzuner; while “Matiz” is an old Greek term for a very drunk person.
His second album, “Yaşım Çocuk” released in January 2013, became a hit and even got the Album of the Year award from Milliyet Sanat Magazine. It was published by another label, Doğan Music Company. Since then, Matiz has put out two more studio albums, “Gök Nerede” in February 2015, and the latest new Mabel Matiz album, “Maya” in June 2018.
The biggest hits in the Mabel Matiz setlist to date are “Sultan Süleyman” (2013), “Öyle Kolaysa” (2018), “A Canım” (also 2018), and “Karakol” (2022). He was also featured on the 2017 hit single by Turkish pop singer Sila “Muhbir”. Check where the next Mabel Matiz concert is playing near you on our page above. He is not to be confused with British pop singer Mabel.
