Dominique Armani Jones, better known by his stage name Lil Baby, is an American rapper and songwriter. He was born on December 3, 1994 in Atlanta, Georgia. Lil Baby grew up without a father. He dropped out of high school after 9th grade, and started dealing drugs. As a result, he spent 2 years in jail. He actually got into rapping through his connections as a dealer, as he was selling to many people at an Atlanta label. The founder of the company, Kevin "Coach K" Lee, encouraged him to try rapping.
He got early mentorship from established rappers Young Thug and Gunna, the former of which was even featured on Lil Baby's debut mixtape, "Perfect Timing" in 2017. He went on to publish 3 additional mixtapes before completing his debut album.
That debut studio album came out in May 2018, with the title "Harder Than Ever". It became a massive hit, peaking at the #3 spot on the famous Billboard 200 chart. Since then, Lil Baby has released 2 more studio albums, thus he has 3 in total. The best selling one among them is his second one, "My Turn" from February 2020, which sold around 3.9 million copies worldwide. Meanwhile, the latest new Lil Baby album came out in October 2022, with the title "It's Only Me". In 2021, he got to go on his first nationwide Lil Baby concert tour, "The Back Outside Tour".
Lil Baby's biggest hits to date are "Freestyle" (2017), "Drip Too Hard" (2018) featuring Gunna, "Close Friends" (also 2018) also featuring Gunna, and "We Paid" (2020) featuring 42 Dugg. He was featured on the 2020 hit hip hop song "For the Night" by Pop Smoke, and on the 2021 single by Canadian rap/R&B superstar Drake,"Wants and Needs" as well. Check where the next Lil Baby concert is playing near you. He is not to be confused with fellow American rapper DaBaby.
