Lauren Daigle is an American singer and songwriter. She was born on September 9, 1991 in Lake Charles, Louisiana. Daigle started taking her first vocal lessons at age 15 - however, she picked up singing for a less than ideal reason. A serious viral infection kept her out of school for two years, so she wanted to kill time by learning to sing. She also started singing in her local choir.
She liked music so much that she tried out for American Idol twice, in 2010 and 2012, but never made it to the final 24. However, she did manage to land background vocal gigs, as well as produce two tracks for the Christian music label North Point Worship’s 2015 project "Hear".
Daigle’s first album of her own also came out in 2015, with the title “How Can It Be”. She was 24 at the time. It topped the charts in the Christian music genre, and even made it in the top 20 on Billboard’s Hot 100 list for all genres. The breakout single on the album was “Trust In You”. Daigle erupted onto the American religious music scene.
The next year, she released a Christmas album entitled “Behold: A Christmas Collection”. On it, she covered such holiday classics as “Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas”, “Oh Holy Night”, “Silent Night”, and even “Jingle Bells”. That album too was a hit in the Christian music industry.
Her third, and so far latest, studio project was released in September 2018. The album was titled “Look Up Child”, and the most successful tracks on it were the Christian pop song “You Say”; as well as “Rescue”, and “Still Rolling Stones”.
In 2019, Daigle won two Grammy awards: the Best Contemporary Christian Music Album for her album “Look Up Child”; and the Best Contemporary Christian Music Performance/Song for her hit single “You Say”.
