Kings Of Leon Biography

Formed in 99 by brothers Caleb, Nathan, Jared, and the brother's cousin, Matthew Followill, Kings of Leon is an alternative rock and garage rock band that gained early success in the UK with multiple top 40 singles and BRIT Awards. By 2008, the group was already very popular worldwide with the hit "Only by the Night," which also led to their success in the U.S. As of 2024, the band has won four Grammy Awards, including Record of the Year for "Use Somebody" in 2010.

The three brothers and the cousin Matthew all grew up together in Oklahoma, their involvement with instruments and music started at an early age, by traveling with their parents, attending church services, and occasionally playing drums during their father's sermons. Their early influences included pioneers of the rock genre like The Rolling Stones and Pixies.

By 2002, Kings of Leon attracted interest from several music labels and eventually secured a good deal for them. A very interesting fact is that the label wanted to assemble a band for them, but they insisted on forming their own, this resulted in locking themselves in the basement and in an intense period of creativity. Which eventually, led to the creation of iconic tracks like "California Waiting."

The long-awaited debut came in 2003, with the EP "Holy Roller Novocaine." The EP had songs that later appeared on their debut album, "Youth and Young Manhood." By 2007, Kings of Leon, with huge popularity all over the world, the band released their third album, named "Because of the Times," which led the rock band to perform at major festivals like Glastonbury and Lollapalooza.

In 2010, 10 years after the formation of the band, they released their fifth album, "Come Around Sundown." The album was once again a huge success and had many hits that led the band to tour in countries like the U.S., Ireland, and others. But something a bit strange happened during one of these concerts, Caleb left the stage right in the middle of the concert, which led to the cancellation of the other concerts in the U.S. that were yet to come.

By 2016, Kings of Leon released the album "Walls," and by 2024, they announced their ninth studio album, "Can We Please Have Fun."
