George Kusunoki Miller, better known by his stage name Joji and formerly known as Filthy Frank, is a Japanese singer, rapper, songwriter, and comedian. He was born on September 18, 1992 in Osaka, Japan. Joji was born in Japan, to an Australian-American father and a Japanese mother. After graduating from an English-language international high school, he moved to the US. There, he created the YouTube channel "DizastaMusic". He originally uploaded music there, but then switched the content up to comedy sketches he made with his friends.
It was for these sketches that he originally created his “Filthy Frank” alter ego. With the character’s popularity, he created his own YouTube channel for him. He also created the character of “Pink Guy”, which was him dressed in a pink one-piece body suit, acting crazy in public. His first musical project was published under his Pink Guy persona, the comedy hip hop album “Pink Season” from January 2017. It performed surprisingly well for its odd nature, even breaking into the famous Billboard 200 chart at the #70 spot. In the meantime, in 2015, he started to create serious music under yet another alias of his, “Joji”.
Perhaps this gave Joji the confidence to announce in December 2017 that he no longer wishes to make comedy videos and rather start focusing on his serious, R&B and lo-fi music career under the Joji name. His first album as Joji came out in October 2018, with the title “Ballads 1". It became a massive hit, peaking at the #3 spot on Billboard 200. The record’s success allowed him to go on his first North American Joji concert tour, called the “Ballads 1 Tour”.
Since then, Joji has put out one more studio album, “Nectar” in September 2020. Alas, it failed to emulate his first album’s success. The next new Joji album is set to come out in November 2022, with the title “Smithereens”. The biggest hits in the Joji setlist to date are “SLOW DANCING IN THE DARK” (2018), “YEAH RIGHT” (also 2018), and “Sanctuary" (2019).
