Formed in Calabasas, USA, Incubus is a rock band considered to be extremely important for the 90s rock scene. Formed by Brandon Boyd, Mike Einziger, and José Pasillas, Incubus made it to the mainstream with the album "Make Yourself," almost 8 years after the band's debut. But their journey didn't end there, albums like "Morning View" and "A Crow Left of the Murder..." were very important for the band's career as well. With this huge success, the band sold over 23 million records worldwide.
The rock band was formed when Brandon Boyd, Mike Einziger, Alex Katunich, and José Pasillas were in high school. With some gigs scheduled in Los Angeles, they decided to go with the name Incubus. Their first EP, "Let Me Tell Ya 'Bout Root Beer," of 95, followed by their debut album "Fungus Amongus." After adding DJ Lyfe, they signed with their first record label one year later, releasing the EP "Enjoy Incubus" while touring with the nu-metal band Korn.
"S.C.I.E.N.C.E." was Incubus's second album. Released in 97, the album marked a shift towards the nu-metal genre, which was already popular at that time, and about to become even popular by the early 2000s. In early 98, Incubus toured with System of a Down and Ultraspank.
After "S.C.I.E.N.C.E.," the band took a break before working on "Make Yourself." Released in 99, the album once again shifted genres, going to a more alternative rock style. After a tour in Europe, the band recorded "Morning View" in 2001. Their single "Wish You Were Here" climbed the charts, and "Morning View" debuted at No. 2 on the Billboard Top 200.
2003 was a very turbulent year for the band, they decided to renegotiate their contract with the record label after they felt underpaid. Right after that, the band announced bassist Dirk Lance's departure due to "creative differences." The good part was that the legal dispute between Incubus and the record label was settled, as the record label agreed to pay way more in a new contract for 3 albums.
5 years later, in 2008, the band took a break with each member pursuing their own personal interests, like Mike Einziger, who attended Harvard for music. But only one year later the band was back on track again, and announced a greatest hits album, "Monuments and Melodies," featuring new singles like "Black Heart Inertia." After a tour in South America in 2010, Incubus released "If Not Now, When?", in 2011.
Later, Brandon Boyd announced new Incubus music and a tour for 2015, which Mike Einziger confirmed on Twitter. 2015 was a busy year for the rock band: they performed at the Soundwave Festival in Australia and toured Japan, Hawaii, and Mexico. Incubus also announced a North American tour with Deftones, supported by Death from Above 1979.
