Nayvadius DeMun Wilburn, better known by his stage name Future, is an American rapper, singer, and songwriter. He was born on November 20, 1983 in Atlanta, Georgia. Despite becoming a rapper, he later cited rockstar Jimi Hendrix as his greatest musical influence growing up. In his late teenage years, he joined the loose hip hop collective The Dungeon Family, where he performed under the name “Meathead”. The founder of the hip hop group, record producer Rico Wade, is his first cousin. Wade took the young up-and-coming rapper under his wing and encouraged him to pursue a career in music. In the meantime, Future released a few solo mixtapes, as well as a collaborative album with rapper Gucci Mane.
This all led to him being signed with Epic Records. In April 2012, they released his debut album “Pluto” which was published under his new stage name “Future”. It became a hit, peaking at the #8 spot on the famous Billboard 200 list. The standout tracks on the record were “Tony Montana” featuring Drake, and “Magic”, a remix of one of Future’s early songs, featuring T.I.
Since then, the prolific rapper from Atlanta has released 8 more full studio albums, thus he has 9 in total. The best selling among them so far has been “DS2”, released in July 2015, which sold over 2 million copies worldwide. Meanwhile, the latest new Future album came out in April 2022, with the title “I Never Liked You”. In 2017, he went on his first nationwide Future concert tour.
Future’s biggest hits to date are the aforementioned “Tony Montana” (2011) featuring Drake, “Low Life” (2015) featuring The Weeknd, “Mask Off” (2017), and “Life is Good” (2019), another collaboration with Canadian hip hop superstar Drake.
In 2019, he won a Grammy Award in the Best Rap Performance category for the song “King’s Dead”, a song on the 2018 blockbuster superhero movie Black Panther’s soundtrack. The vocals on this track were performed by Future, Kendrick Lamar, Jay Rock, as well as English singer James Blake. Check where the nearest Future concert is playing on the page above.
