Elevation Worship is a contemporary gospel music group. They were formed in 2007 in Charlotte, North Carolina. The founder was Pastor Steven Furtick.
The worship group is based in Elevation Church in Charlotte, a multi-site worship house. Pastor Furtick came up with the idea to form a gospel group within his congregation, and record original music for commercial release. The primary singer, guitarist, and songwriter in the group has been Chris Brown from the start (not to be confused with the R&B artist of the same name), Furtick’s old high school friend, who is with the band to this day.
The first independently produced record by the group thus came out in October 2007, with the title “The Sound”, and under the name “Elevation Worship Live” then. They went on to release one new Elevation Worship album each year between 2008 and 2010. The latest record of those, 2010’s “Kingdom Come”, was their first to chart nationally. It peaked at the #5 spot on Billboard’s new artist-specific Heatseekers chart, and #17 on their Christian Albums chart. As a result, they were signed by the label Essential Records, a subsidiary of Sony Music Nashville.
They put out their first label-backed album, “For the Honor”, in November 2011. It was a live album, a recording of an Elevation Worship concert show performed at the Elevation Church in Blakeney, North Carolina. Also, it was their first to break into the famous overall Billboard 200 chart, peaking at the #193 spot. Since then, the worship group has released 11 live albums of Elevation Worship concert shows (thus they have 12 in total), as well as 6 studio albums. The best selling one among them is “Here as in Heaven”, a live album from February 2016, which sold around 500,000 copies. Meanwhile, the latest new Elevation Worship album came out in October 2022, with the title “León”.
Elevation Worship’s biggest hits to date are “Here As in Heaven” (2016, same title as their album), “Do It Again” (2017), and “Jireh” (2021).
I hope soon; it's been a long time since they've done concerts out here.
