Born in Santa Marta in 1961, Vives did the unthinkable in 1993—he dared to mix vallenato with rock and pop on "Clásicos de la Provincia." The purists were outraged, but the people? They couldn't get enough.
He wasn't just making music; he was creating "vallenato-pop," a whole new sound that would help put Colombian music on the global map. Twenty million records later, he's collaborated with everyone from Shakira on "La Bicicleta" to Ricky Martin on "Canción Bonita."
