Born in The Netherlands, considered to be the land of world-class DJs, Armin Jozef Jacobus Daniël van Buuren, AKA, Armin van Buuren, is a DJ and producer and is considered to be a reference within the EDM community. Armin built his legacy in the trance genre more precisely, and since 2001, he has hosted A State of Trance (ASOT), a weekly radio show that reaches nearly 40 million listeners in 84 countries.
The producer was raised in a small village in The Netherlands, called Koudekerk aan den Rijn, where he started his, soon-to-be very successful career in 1996 at a club in the city, with much love for dance music. The young Armin later gained international recognition, eventually getting married in 2009 and welcoming two children. Armin shared his family history on the show "Verborgen Verleden" in 2018.
In 2000, Armin launched his compilation series, mixing progressive house and vocal trance styles, of which he is an expert. His first album, "A State of Trance," sold over 10k copies and featured his remix of Moogwai's "Viola." Together with another heavy-weight DJ, Tiësto, he created Major League's "Wonder Where You Are?" and Alibi's "Eternity."
Armin's second album, "Shivers," came out in 2005, featuring songs with artists like Nadia Ali and Gabriel & Dresden. He was voted number two in DJ Mag in 2006. Also, he celebrated the 300th A State of Trance episode in the Netherlands in 2007, alongside other artists.
In 2013, Armin was ranked the second-best DJ in the world by DJ Mag. In January 2014, he attended the 56th Grammy Awards due to his nomination for the song "This Is What It Feels Like," featuring Trevor Guthrie, in the Best Dance Recording category.
Armin has won many top awards. He was named the best DJ by DJ Mag five times, four years in a row. In 2014, he also holds the record for the most entries on the Billboard Dance/Electronic Albums chart, with twenty-one entries.
