Hailing from Mexico, María Guadalupe Araujo Yong, also known by her stage name, Ana Gabriel, is a singer well-known within the Latin pop and ranchera music genres. Having titles like La Diva de América and La Luna de América, Ana Gabriel has released not only over twenty studio albums but also over fifteen compilation albums. Regarding success within the Latin pop genre, Ana Gabriel is a top artist on the Billboard charts, having seven singles topping the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart. Some of them are "Ay Amor," and "Quién Como Tú."
Ana was born in Sinaloa, Mexico, and despite not having formal training for singing she always credited her maternal grandfather, Roberto Yong, an immigrant from China, for being her sole singing coach. Having singing influences coming from inside of her family, her first on-stage performance was at the age of six. Later, she moved to Tijuana, Baja California, where she studied accounting. At 21, in 1977, she recorded her first song, "Compréndeme."
Only 10 years later Ana's single, "Ay Amor" got third place at the OTI Festival and topped the charts in Mexico. The following 2 years, she released "Pecado Original" and "Quién Como Tú."
In 2006, Ana Gabriel was honored with the Excellence Award at the Lo Nuestro Awards, and by 2014, Ana Gabriel announced a new album for 2015 after a seven-year break from releasing new songs.
In 2017, the music star was inducted into the Latin American Songwriters Hall of Fame.
