Alok Biography
From the city of Goiânia, in Brazil, Alok Achkar Peres Petrillo, or simply known as Alok is a house and techno mainstream DJ and producer famous worldwide. Ranked the 4th best DJ globally by DJ Mag in 2021 and 2022, he is the highest-ranked Brazilian. Alok has received honors like "Best DJ in Brazil" by House Mag in 2014 and 2015 and was the only Brazilian in DJ Mag's top 25 in 2016. Forbes Brazil named him one of the most influential people under 30 in 2017.
Alok is the son of DJs Swarup and Ekanta, pioneers of psytrance and founders of the Universo Paralello music festival, very famous in Brazil. His name, given by spiritual guru Osho during his parents' trip to India, means "light" in Sanskrit.
Alok began his career at 12 with his twin brother, and at 19, pursued a solo career, becoming a top icon in the Brazilian EDM scene. He was awarded "Best DJ in Brazil" by House Mag in 2014 and 2015, and was the only Brazilian in the top 25 world DJ ranking by DJ Magazine in 2016.
Nowadays, Alok is known for bringing EDM and Brazilian music to the table. Regarding the global scenario of EDM, Alok's presence is extremely important, continuing to release popular tracks and perform at major festivals worldwide, like Ultra.
A fun fact is that when Alok was only 10 years old, he started learning music, which was influenced by their father's band, who taught Alok and his brother how to mix songs. His dad and some friends helped him and installed music production software on Alok's father's computer, sparking Alok's and his brother's interest in music production.
