Roots reggae is a subgenre of reggae music that originated in Jamaica in the late 1960s and early 1970s. The genre delves into the spiritual dimensions of Rastafari, black liberation, revolution, and the reverence for God, known as Jah in Rastafarianism. The genre addresses themes like spirituality, religion, the struggles of artists, poverty, black pride, social issues, and opposition to fascism, capitalism, corrupt government, and racial oppression.
