Held in Bogotá, Colombia, Rock al Parque is a very popular music festival in Colombia. The gig is considered to be the largest free outdoor festival in Latin America and the third largest in the world, it is a significant event in the Festivales Al Parque series. Being the oldest festival in the series, Rock al Parque has inspired other festivals featuring various themes and artistic genres, including salsa, jazz, hip-hop, and opera.
In its 2023 edition, Rock al Parque solidified its status as the largest free-access music festival in Latin America, drawing over 390k attendees. Over three days, the festival showcased a vibrant array of musical organized by the District Institute of the Arts (Idartes).
The festival started in 1994, growing from the Youth Music Encounters since 1992, led by Mario Duarte of La Derecha. Initially embraced by metal bands, it aimed to promote rock and foster youth coexistence in Bogotá. By 1996, it became free, dropping the Plaza de Toros venue. In 1998, public protests saved it from cancellation, and it was declared a cultural heritage. Over time, it expanded to include many other music genres.
