Post Malone Biography

Austin Richard Post, better known by his stage name Post Malone, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and music producer. He was born on July 4, 1995 in Syracuse, New York. Malone was born in New York but moved to Texas at a young age, following his father’s relocation. His father was also a DJ in his youth, which gave the young Austin an early musical influence. So, he learnt to play the guitar, partially thanks to his love for the video game Guitar Hero. He first joined a heavy metal band as a guitarist when he was a teenager. Then, he slowly transitioned to soft rock, then hip hop. He also started to dabble in the beat making software Fruity Loops.

Malone first got serious about music after dropping out of college at age 19. He moved in with his pro streamer friend Jason Probst in Los Angeles. The two, along with other musicians such as Billie Gvtes, formed the new music group “BLKCVRD”.

Their first hit came in February 2015. They uploaded the hip hop song “White Iverson” to the site Soundcloud with Post Malone on the vocals. It instantly went viral. This ultimately led to Malone being signed by Republic Records in August. He also went on a Post Malone concert tour, opening for Canadian pop superstar (and Malone’s close personal friend) Justin Bieber.

Post Malone’s debut album came out in December 2016 with the title “Stoney”. It became a success, peaking at the #4 spot on the Billboard 200 list in the US. The biggest hit on the tracklist was “Congratulations” featuring American rapper Quavo.

Since then, Malone has produced 3 more studio albums, thus he has 4 in total. The best selling among them has been “Hollywood's Bleeding” from September 2019. Meanwhile, the latest new Post Malone album is from June 2022, entitled “Twelve Carat Toothache”.

Malone’s biggest hits to date are the aforementioned “Congratulations” featuring Quavo (2016), “Sunflower” featuring Swae Lee (2018), “rockstar” featuring 21 Savage (2018), and “Psycho” featuring Ty Dolla $ign (also 2018).

According to the man himself, he chose his famous stage name by using a simple rap name generator. In that regard, he’s done the same as fellow American rapper Childish Gambino. In addition, his second album “Beerbongs & Bentleys” broke the record of most streams earned in a week with a staggering 431.3 million plays back in May 2018.
