Neil Young Biography

Famous for first joining the band Buffalo Springfield and later following his solo career, Neil Percival Young, also known by his artistic name, Neil Young, is a singer born in Canada. Even though Neil is very popular within the folk-rock genre, his talent brought him to various landscapes in the music universe.

Neil's music mixes folk, rock, country, and other styles. When he plays electric guitar, especially with Crazy Horse, it's often loud and rough, leaving his own signature on every and each song he jumps into, that's why many people call him the "Godfather of Grunge." In 1995, he made an album called "Mirror Ball" with Pearl Jam. Lately, he's been performing with a band called Promise of the Real.

Neil has won many Grammy and Juno Awards. He's been honored twice by the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame: once in 1995 for his solo work, and again in 1997 for being part of Buffalo Springfield. Rolling Stone magazine also ranked him as the 30th-best guitarist ever in 2023.

Neil's interest in music started at a very early age. He got into popular music he heard on the radio. He really looked up to Elvis Presley and mentioned him in many of his songs later on.

In 1994, Neil worked with Crazy Horse on "Sleeps with Angels." The album's was inspired by Nirvana's Kurt Cobain's passing earlier that year. The title track, in particular, explored Cobain's life and death without directly naming him.

Since 2006, Neil has been managing the Neil Young Archives project. This includes releasing live albums like Live at the Fillmore East in 2006 and box sets containing live and studio recordings, such as The Archives Vol. 1 1963–1972 in 2009. He also releases videos as part of this project.

But if you think Neil's dedication is only to music, you are wrong. Neil proved to have a very big heart by helping in diverse charities. Neil is part of the Canadian charity Artists Against Racism, and also an environmentalist, advocating for small farmers.

Neil also proved to be a very smart businessman, he was a co-owner of Lionel, LLC, a company that produces toy trains and model railroad accessories.
