Neck Deep is a Welsh pop-punk band originating from Wrexham, UK, formed in 2012. The band's inception can be traced back to the meeting of vocalist Ben Barlow and former lead guitarist Lloyd Roberts. Their journey began when the duo posted a song titled "What Did You Expect?" online under the moniker Neck Deep. The track quickly gained traction in the online music community, prompting the addition of members such as rhythm guitarist Matt West, drummer Dani Washington/Abasi, and bassist Fil Thorpe-Evans.
In the early stages of their career, Neck Deep independently released a pair of EPs, namely "Rain in July" in 2012 and "A History of Bad Decisions" in 2013. Both EPs were recorded by Ben Barlow's older brother, Seb. The band's rising popularity led them to sign with the record label Hopeless in August 2013, marking a significant step forward in their musical journey.
In 2019, Neck Deep took a significant step in their career by embarking on a summer tour as the opening act for the iconic band Blink-182. The exposure and experience gained from this tour further solidified their presence in the music scene. By February 2020, the band made an important addition to their lineup, officially welcoming longtime collaborator and bassist Seb Barlow as a full-fledged member.
During the same month, Neck Deep unveiled an innovative app that featured a diverse range of multimedia content related to the announcement of their fourth album, titled "All Distortions Are Intentional." This album was subsequently released on July 24, 2020, marking another milestone in the band's discography.
Building on their creative momentum, Neck Deep released their self-titled fifth album on January 19, 2024, showcasing their continued evolution and contributions to the pop-punk genre. This ongoing journey underscores their commitment to delivering new and compelling music to their fans.
