Mon Laferte Biography

Norma Monserrat Bustamante Laferte, known as Mon Laferte, is a Chilean-Mexican musician, singer, composer, and painter. She sings different kinds of music like pop, rock, and salsa. People like her because she's dramatic on stage and sings really well. She's sold lots of records in Latin America, making her the top-selling Chilean artist of the 2000s. Some of her famous songs are "Tormento," "Amor completo," and "Amárrame." She's won four Latin Grammy Awards and two MTV Europe Music Awards.

Laferte grew up in Viña del Mar, Chile, with her mother, grandmother, and younger sister. At nine, she won a contest and received a guitar, where she started writing her own songs. At thirteen, she got a scholarship to study music but preferred learning on her own. She practiced by performing in bars in Viña del Mar and Valparaiso. In 2007, Laferte moved to Veracruz, Mexico. By 2008, she was performing as Mon Laferte. After over 15 years in Mexico, she was granted Mexican citizenship in 2022.

In 2003, Laferte, then known as Monserrat Bustamante, joined the Chilean reality show Rojo. She released her first album, La Chica de Rojo, the same year, which became a hit in Chile, earning Gold and Platinum certifications. Laferte was part of Clan Rojo and featured on the show for four seasons.

In 2007, Laferte moved from Chile to Mexico City to pursue her music career. She performed in clubs and recorded cover songs.

In 2009, she released a single called "Lo mismo que yo" as a preview for her upcoming album. Unfortunately, the album's production was halted when Laferte was diagnosed with thyroid cancer the same year.

In 2023, Laferte performed for the first time at the Olmué Huaso Festival, marking her return to the Patagual stage where she had performed as a child.
