Todd Michael “Leon” Bridges is an American singer, songwriter, and music producer. He was born on July 13, 1989 in Atlanta, Georgia. Bridges learnt to play the guitar while growing up in the state of Georgia. As he got older, he moved to Fort Worth, Texas where he worked as a dishwasher at Del Frisco's Grille. In the meantime, he regularly performed early Leon Bridges concert shows at open mic nights in the area.
Bridges’s choice of genre was a unique one: he mainly sang soul songs from the get-go, which was most popular in the 1950’s and 60’s. However, this uniqueness made him stand out of the crowd of amateur musicians. Bridges’ talent was noticed by guitarist Austin Jenkins and drummer Joshua Block of the Texas-based rock band “White Denim”. They helped him produce his first couple of songs. One of them, “Coming Home”, got airtime on local radio stations (and later it even ended up being used in an iPhone commercial). Eventually, this all led to him being signed by the major label Columbia Records in 2014.
In early 2015, he got to go on his first nationwide Leon Bridges concert tour. His debut album came out in June 2015, with the same title as his first hit single, “Coming Home”. The LP itself also became a hit, topping the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart by Billboard in the US, while also peaking at #6 on the famous overall Billboard 200 chart.
Since then, Bridges has put out two more studio albums, thus he has 3 in total. The best selling one among them has remained his first one, “Coming Home” from 2015, which sold around 700,000 copies worldwide. Meanwhile, the latest new Leon Bridges album came out in July 2021, with the title “Gold-Diggers Sound”. Leon Bridges’ biggest hits to date are the aforementioned “Coming Home” (2014), “River” (2015), “Better Man” (also 2015), and “Beyond” (2018).
