BEGIN Biography

BEGIN(ビギン)is a popular Japanese pop-rock group from Ishigaki Island in the Yaeyama Islands of Okinawa Prefecture. The band consists of three members: Eishō Higa (比嘉栄昇) on sanshin and vocals, Masaru Shimabukuro (島袋優) on guitar, and Hitoshi Uechi (上地等) on piano.

They have been friends since elementary school and formed the band in 1988. BEGIN's music incorporates elements of pop, rock, and folk, with a touch of Okinawan flavor. Their melodies are pleasant and their lyrics often reflect themes of love, nature, and the beauty of their hometown.

One of BEGIN's breakthrough hits is "Shimanchu no Takara," which has become an anthem in Okinawa and gained nationwide popularity. The band has released numerous successful albums and singles, establishing themselves as one of Japan's beloved bands.

In addition to their musical achievements, BEGIN actively contributes to the preservation and development of Okinawan culture. They incorporate traditional instruments like the sanshin into their performances, adding a unique flavor. Their performances are sincere and create a deep connection with the audience.

BEGIN continues to impress listeners in Japan and abroad with their heartwarming music and genuine approach. Their music bridges generations and leaves a lasting impact on the Japanese music scene.
