Picture this: Three distinct voices weaving through crushing metal riffs - that's Amaranthe's bold experiment that started back in 2008. When guitarist Olof Mörck and singer Jake E decided to put three lead vocalists in a metal band, eyebrows definitely raised.
But their 2011 debut silenced the skeptics. Those three-way vocal harmonies - clean male, female, and growls - created something fresh in the metal scene. Their 2013 follow-up "The Nexus" proved it wasn't just a fluke, cracking the US market.
The road hasn't always been smooth. They've had to replace both harsh vocalists (Andreas Solveström, then Henrik Englund Wilhelmsson) and clean vocalist Jake E over the years. But each change brought new energy - like when Dynazty's Nils Molin joined in 2017, or Mikael Sehlin stepped in for 2023's "The Catalyst."
They jammed with former Arch Enemy's Angela Gossow, they did Sabaton, and they dropped an E-Sport anthem. In general their music has become more varied while their special formula has remained true throughout the years.
What started as the "crazy three-singers-experiment" has become their super power, and that signature sound is unmistakably their own. Their now seventh album, "The Catalyst," demonstrates how some very good metal ideas come about when it's time to break all the rules.
