Born in Halifax, Canada, Sarah McLachlan is a pop singer who has sold over 40 million albums worldwide. Her most popular album, "Surfacing," earned her two Grammy Awards and four Juno Awards. Sarah's 1991 album, "Solace," was her big success in Canada, the album was not only important for its results but also because it marked the start of her partnership with Pierre Marchand.
Following the success of the 1993 "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy," Sarah came back in 1997 with "Surfacing," her most successful album. "Surfacing" gave Sarah two Grammy Awards in 1998, the song topped the Canadian Albums Chart, and reached number two on the US Billboard 200, selling over 16 million copies worldwide.
Sarah also launched the famous Lilith Fair tour during this time. Her song "Angel," inspired by a tragic event, became a huge hit. Another song from "Surfacing," "Full of Grace," featured in the Season 2 finale of Buffy the Vampire Slayer, as well as in Dawson's Creek and the film Moll Flanders.
In 1999, Sarah sang the Randy Newman song "When She Loved Me" for the Toy Story 2 soundtrack, portraying the character Jessie's singing voice. This song was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Original Song in 2000, and Sarah performed it at the awards ceremony, but unfortunately, she didn't win.
In 2006, Sarah surprised everyone with the release of a Christmas album called, "Wintersong." The album reached No. 7 worldwide. Also, in that same year, her live album for the original one was re-released as "Mirrorball: The Complete Concert," featuring two discs from concerts in 1998 in Portland, Oregon.
Fast forward to 2023, Sarah announced a tour for 2024 to celebrate the 30th anniversary of "Fumbling Towards Ecstasy."
