Top10 Worldwide Music Selection From Concerty - February 2025
It's a new month, which means that it is that time again - let's see what people have been listening to all around the world recently. This selection features Lola Young, Jimin, Anitta, and more.
Lola Young - Messy (UNITED KINGDOM)
Here’s a track that is nearly one year old. Lola Young’s “Messy” came out in May 2024, but her local British fans seem to not have forgotten about it. It’s a rare, nice blend of soul and pop, which starts with a clean drum roll, a simple guitar riff, and some ethereal synths before the first verse starts with Young’s smooth, breathy vocals - although the lyrics are not the most calming, they are rather intrusive. It is certainly worth checking out, if for no other reason, to see what the longevity of its popularity is all about in the UK.
Jimin - Be Mine (SOUTH KOREA)
Meanwhile in South Korea, the BTS boys keep on dominating. The band itself has not put out a single since June 2023. However, the members have been quite busy with their solo careers, as per the plan announced by the band. This time, it was Jimin’s turn to take the top spot on the Korean Spotify chart. It was with his 2024 single “Who”. However, since we included that in our July 2024 Concerty Worldwide column, we are picking another high-charting song of his this time, “Be Mine”. Just like our first pick on this list, this isn’t the freshest song out there either, being originally released in August 2024 - but it’s still very popular in South Korea!
RACK - Griselda feat. Sin Laurent (GREECE)
Let’s visit a country we rarely do in this column, Greece. There, local hip hop artist RACK had a winner last month, with his recent release titled “Griselda”. The beat for the cut was made by producer Sin Laurent.
Morgenshtern - ПОВОД (KAZAKHSTAN)
Russian users are still not allowed back to the Spotify platform - that, however, can soon change as peace negotiations are underway in the Russian-Ukrainian war. Still, some Russian artists maintain a sizeable audience in neighboring countries with large Russian-speaking populations. This is exactly the case for Russian rapper Morgenshtern, whose brand new single “ПОВОД” was a major hit in Kazakhstan last month.
Anitta - Sei Que Tu Me Odeia feat. McDanny & Hitmaker (BRAZIL)
Up next, we have one of Brazil’s biggest celebrities, singer-actress-dancer, and even occasional television host, Anitta. This next track is off of her latest record, “Ensaios da Anitta” (meaning “Anitta's rehearsals” in English), which came in out in December 2024, and is the seventh in her discography. Her debut album is from 2013, so she has already proven that her career has staying power. Now, enjoy “Sei Que Tu Me Odeia,” featuring fellow Brazilian artists McDanny and Hitmaker, linked below.
Væb - RÓA (ICELAND)
We’ve got a real novelty for you, this is probably the only Icelandic EDM group you’ll hear in a long while - unless, evidently, you happen to live in the arctic island nation of around 400,000 people… However, Væb certainly impressed some people with the song they submitted to the 2025 Eurovision song contest, “RÓA,” as the video of their performance has racked up nearly as many views as people live in their home country.
Pezet - Dom Nad Wodą feat. Auer (POLAND)
If you ever wondered to yourself what popular Polish rap sounds like, here is your answer. Pezet is old school in hip hop world of Poland, having released his debut album back in 2002. However, his career is still going strong, as evidenced by his 2022 single “Dom Nad Wodą,” produced by Auer still being a popular listen in his home country last month as well.
Oimara - Wackelkontakt (AUSTRIA)
German pop singer Oimara first blew up on YouTube quite late in life by influencer standards, at age 25. However, he managed to parlay that attention into a sustainable music career. He is currently on his third album. His upbeat new track, “Wackelkontakt”, has also become a major hit - and not just in his home country, but in another German-speaking country, Austria as well.
DJ Maphorisa - Ngibolekeni feat. Scotts Maphuma, Xduppy & More (SOUTH AFRICA)
This track would better be good, as a whole army of artists is credited with its creation in the title alone. South African DJ Maphorisa is the main man behind the project. However, Scotts Maphuma and Xduppy are also among the main artists; and there are a total of six others listed as featured artists on the track. The EDM track itself is nearly 10 minutes long, so that in part explains the huge number of contributors. The “something for everyone” approach seems to have worked, as the song has been charting high among Spotify listeners in South Africa all last month. Despite the many different artists providing their vocals, the beat is very consistent throughout.
HIEUTHUHAI - Exit Sign feat. marzuz (VIETNAM)
Let’s finish our list in South East Asia, in Vietnam to be exact. Just like the first two songs we started with, this is not a new release either. The track “Exit Sign” by local artist HIEUTHUHAI came out in October 2023, but it still found its way to the top 10 of the country’s Spotify chart after all these months since its release. See what its long-lived popularity is all about by giving it a listen below.
