Top10 Worldwide Music Selection from Concerty - December 2024
After a long technical delay, the Concerty Worldwide Selection is back, just in time to see what songs have been popular in what part of the world this holiday season - but you'll find more than just Christmas music in this article, of course.
Bobby Helms - Jingle Bell Rock (UNITED STATES)
At this time of the year, evidently all the Christmas classics were vying for the top spots in the United States, from Mariah Carey to Brenda Lee. Also among the top streamed artists was Bobby Helms, with the classic hit of his own, “Jingle Bell Rock” from 1957.
It is almost certain that most of you have heard this iconic rock & roll tune, but just in case you missed it, or you just want to hear it one more time after the holiday season, it is linked below for your listening pleasure. Helms passed away in 1997, but the success of his rendition of this song continues to outlive the man year after year.
Marracash - LEI (ITALY)
Hip hop is still very popular in Italy, and that will not change in the new year either. One of the people who are especially happy to hear that is rapper Marracash, hailing from the isle of Sicily. He put out his new single “LEI” last month, and it immediately became a massive hit among Italian Spotify users.
Dedublüman - Sana Güvenmiyorum feat. Aleyna Tilki (TURKEY)
Meanwhile in Turkey, the indie pop band Dedublüman was among last month's winners. Their new single "Sana Güvenmiyorum", featuring fellow Turk singer Aleyna Tilki and a heavily boosted bassline, was a popular listen among local music fans all December.
Wham! - Last Christmas (SWEDEN)
Up North, in Sweden, people can still count on a white Christmas. No wonder the people were very much in the mood for some iconic holiday tunes. Of the many to choose from, most Swedes went with "Last Christmas" by the British pop duo Wham! From 1984. It’s not the happiest of Christmas pop songs, as its chorus is about being dumped by a lover, but George Michael’s iconic vocals still shine through.
Quevedo - GRAN VÍA feat. Aitana (SPAIN)
Spanish reggaeton singer Quevedo got his start in music as a freestyle rapper while in college. He has been routinely putting out chart-toppers (or near chart-toppers) since the 2021 release of his single “Ya No Sé”.
His brand new hit is “GRAN VÍA,” off of his fresh record “Buenas Noches” (simply meaning “good night” in English) which came out just last November. It is only the second full studio album in his discography, and the first one to top the PROMUSICAE chart in his home country of Spain. The track also features Spanish singer and actress Aitana.
Only Monday - ท้ายปี (THAILAND)
From Thailand, we bring some relatively fresh local faces for you. The three-member boyband Only Monday was formed in 2020 and only has one full-length studio album under their belt so far. They have come out with an epic pop-rock track for December, which was a big hit in their home country.
La T y La M - Amor de Vago (ARGENTINA)
Up next, we have some Latin pop for you, brought to you by the musical stylings of the Argentinian duo La T y La M. It is also a fairly new band, founded in 2020, and it’s made up of Tobías Medrano (“the T”) and Matías Rapen (“the M”). Their music really caught on with Argenitians when it was heavily used during the celebrations of their national football team’s victory at the Copa America in 2021- little did the fans know that there would be a lot more to celebrate the next year, when Messi and the team won the World Cup.
La T y La M has managed to stay at the forefront of the Argentinian music scene ever since. Their single from August 2024 “Amor de Vago,” for example, still continues to trend high on Spotify after all these months.
Wizkid - Kese (Dance) (NIGERIA)
Let’s hop to another continent, Africa, and see what has been popular in its most populous nation, Nigeria, this past month. The answer to that is a cool Afrobeat track by local music star Wizkid, going by the title “Kese (Dance)”. It’s linked below, so take a listen if you like.
Rauw Alejandro - Khé? (PANAMA)
Puerto Rican rapper Rauw Alejandro is casually asking what (que, or with alternative spelling, “Khé”) in the title of his brand new track. And that is all that the Latin American music world needed from him, as they answered his call, and made his single a hit in many countries on the American continent, including Panama.
Averagekidluke - Diva (FINLAND)
Let’s finish our December music collection somewhere especially cold, let’s say Finland. Local artist Averagekidluke makes his second appearance in our monthly column, after August 2024. This time, he is bringing “Diva,” his new R&B track which has been a major hit among Spotify users in his home country all last month.
