From 'DEATHMATCH' to Dream Stages: LUNA KILLS Evolves with New Album and European Tour

LUNA KILLS talks about performing with Sonata Arctica, and getting each time more recognition, playing in bigger stages and their upcoming European Tour

Luna Kills

In this exclusive interview, rising metal band LUNA KILLS uncovers their journey from small clubs to touring with premier bands like Sonata Arctica. The band discusses their highly anticipated debut album "DEATHMATCH" dropping this April on SharpTone Records, and shares some words of wisdom on balancing creativity with tour life. As they prepare for their next tour of Europe, LUNA KILLS reflects on the things they've learned along the way and talks about their grand aspirations for the future, including that one special venue they hope to conquer.

DEATHMATCH & upcoming concerts

CONCERTY: First of all, thank you so much for doing this interview! Let’s start with some exciting news—"DEATHMATCH" is dropping in April 2025. What made this the perfect time to release your first full album with SharpTone Records?

LOTTA FROM LUNA KILLS: We wanted to make an album for a long time, but we weren't sure about self-publishing more than singles, so when the opportunity arose, we jumped on it. SharpTone seemed and has been a great partner because they really cherish the artistic integrity of the bands and their craft.

CONCERTY: You’ve got some shows coming up in Europe this April as well. How are you feeling about it? How’s the preparation going?

LOTTA: We’re really excited because we’ve never played in any of the cities before! We’re preparing to play as much of the new album as possible in all of our live dates this spring and we can’t wait to hit the road.

More tours & bigger stages

CONCERTY: Talking about live concerts, LUNA KILLS went from playing smaller venues to supporting SONATA ARCTICA on bigger stages and it's getting more and more exposure, which is amazing! What’s been the most surprising lesson from that transition?

LOTTA: Every time you learn something new, and though we’ve been playing a lot of live shows for a long time, we always pick up some small things that we can improve, whether it comes to the preparation or to the actual show. I think the most surprising lesson was when we first played a bigger festival stage and our IEMs signed off because they were having some sort of issues with the radio frequencies, that you absolutely do not hear anything on the stage. In smaller venues you still get all the noise, but in an ice hall setting, there’s absolutely nothing outside that fills.

CONCERTY: You’ve been touring a lot, and we know balancing the creative process with life on the road can be tough. How do you manage to keep writing while touring? Or do you prefer to be back home before starting to work on new music?

LOTTA: Preferably, we’d do the touring and writing separately, but you don’t always have that chance. It’s really tough trying to find inspiration to write with a day here and there and not being able to fully immerse yourself in writing. But we have managed so far, most of the time you have to just write as much as you can and learn how to let go of some of the concepts as well.

Wrap-up

CONCERTY: Now, we’ve got a few questions we ask every band. Name one band you’d love to collaborate with on a song and one band or artist you’d love to share the stage with.

LOTTA: Paledusk would be a fun collab, they have a really cool style, and it would be interesting to see what it would yield. Don Broco would be an absolute blast to share a stage with.

CONCERTY: Is there a dream venue or city where you'd love to perform next? Why?

LOTTA: Royal Albert Hall would be insane. We’ve watched so many bands perform there and have the orchestra join them, it would be a dream to do something like that.

CONCERTY: What’s your go-to tour food?

LOTTA: Seriously, anything you can find. If you get served a meal, you better eat it. We’ve had some starving experiences so we try not to be picky.
