Enrique Miguel Iglesias Preysler is a Spanish singer and songwriter. He was born on May 8, 1975 in Madrid, Spain. Iglesias’s father, Julio, is also a widely successful professional singer. While he was born in Spain, he was mostly brought up in Miami, Florida in the United States where his father resided. He started following in his father’s footsteps and performing as a vocalist in high school. He played a part in the school production of the musical “Hello, Dolly!”.
In the mid-1990’s, while living in Toronto, Canada, Iglesias produced a demo tape with Spanish and English language songs on it. He sought the help of his father’s old publicist, and managed to strike a deal with the American Spanish-language music label Fonovisa Records. His debut album, the self-titled “Enrique Iglesias”, came out in November 1995. It became quite a hit, topping Billboard’s Top Latin Albums chart in the US, while also reaching the #148 spot on the overall Billboard 200 chart. He got to go on his first international Enrique Iglesias concert tour in 1997 after the release of his second studio album, “Vivir”.
However, he really hit it big in the early 2000’s, with the release of his smash hit pop record “Escape” in October 2001, the 5th in his catalog. It ended up peaking at the #2 spot on Billboard 200. Overall, the Spanish pop star has put out 11 studio albums during his career. The best selling one among them is the aforementioned “Escape” from 2001, which sold around 10 million copies worldwide. Meanwhile, the latest new Enrique Iglesias album came out in September 2021, with the title “Final”.
Iglesias’s biggest hits to date are “Hero” (2001), “I Like It” (2008) featuring Pitbull, “El Perdedor” (2014) featuring Marco Antonio Solís, and “Bailando” (also 2014) featuring Descemer Bueno and the Cuban reggaeton duo Gente De Zona.
