Travis Scott Biography

Jacques Bermon Webster II, better known by his stage name Travis Scott, is an American rapper, singer, songwriter, and music producer. He was born on April 30, 1991 in Houston, Texas. Scott spent his earliest days with his grandmother in a crime-ridden part of Houston. He moved in with his parents in Missouri City, Texas with better living conditions. His father was a hobby soul musician, while his grandfather played jazz. In high school, Scott took musical theater classes. His stage name is a combination of the names of his uncle named Travis, and the real name of his biggest musical influence, Kid Cudi (which is Scott Ramon Seguro Mescudi).

In 2008, he formed the hip hop duo with his childhood friend Chris Holloway, "The Graduates". They started uploading their music to the late social media site MySpace. He then moved on to another duo, "The Classmates", with rapper OG Chess, which lasted until 2012. Scott formed other partnerships with people in the music industry as well, which usually involved them providing housing for him. However, he was once stood up by a friend in Los Angeles. This was extremely troublesome for Scott, as his parents have cut him off already and kicked him out of their home. However, he managed to settle with another friend of his in LA who was a college student.

In that dark time, fortune finally found him. Rapper T.I. heard one of the beats Scott had produced and was very impressed by it. He contacted him and set up a meeting in his studio.

As a result, Travis Scott's first mixtape, "Owl Pharoah" was released (available free of charge online) by T.I.'s label, Grand Hustle, and Epic Records. His debut album came out in September 2015, with the title "Rodeo". It became a massive hit, peaking at the #3 spot on the Billboard 200 list. His second album, "Birds in the Trap Sing McKnight", managed to top even that, and climbed to the #1 spot on Billboard 200 upon its September 2016 release. It also helped popularize the trap trend of the 2010's.

Since then, Scott has released one more studio album, "Astroworld" in August 2018. It became his best selling one so far, having sold 648,000 copies in the US alone. The next new Travis Scott album is set to be released sometime in 2023, with the title "Utopia". Travis Scott's biggest hits to date are "goosebumps" (2016) featuring Kendrick Lamar, "Antidote" (also 2015), "SICKO MODE" (2018) featuring Drake, and "HIGHEST IN THE ROOM" (2019).

In November 2021, a major controversy emerged at a Travis Scott concert in his hometown of Houston, after he failed to stop his show despite a stampede breaking out in the crowd that ended up killing 10 people.
