Born in the south part of Los Angeles in a musically inclined background, Jhené Aiko Efuru Chilombo, also known by her stage name, Jhené Aiko is an alternative R&B artist. Jhené started her music journey in 2002, singing backup and appearing in music videos for the R&B group B2K. Jhené gained popularity when she sang with Lil Wayne on Big Sean's song "Beware" in 2013. It was her first hit, making it into the top 40 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart.
In 2012, Jhené met with No I.D., a music producer and executive at Def Jam. He signed her to his label, Artium Records, which is under Def Jam.
The next year, Jhené appeared on Big Sean's track "Beware," marking her first song to make it onto the US Billboard Hot 100 chart. Around the same time, it was announced that Aiko would join rapper Drake as an opening act for his Would You like a Tour?.
Throughout the struggles of trying to conquer her own space in the music industry, Jhené unfortunately was involved in a car accident. In 2013, Jhené was in a car crash in her hometown Los Angeles with her daughter, sister Miyoko, and her daughter's father, O'Ryan. She got hurt, but luckily, the others were okay.
Jhené has gained fame for songs like "The Worst," "While We're Young," and "Sativa" featuring Swae Lee, which fans love and critics praise. Her albums "Souled Out" and "Trip" reveal her ability to create emotional music about love, loss, and finding oneself. With her calming voice and meaningful lyrics, Jhené is recognized as a top artist in today's R&B scene.
