Ricardo Dias de Lima Ventura da Costa, better known by his stage name Richie Campbell, is a Portuguese singer and songwriter. He was born on November 25, 1986 in Caxias,Portugal. Campbell’s musical career started in 2010, when he founded the band “Stepacide” while also simultaneously being part of another musical group, “No Joke Sound System”. In the same year, the busy Cambpell also released his debut EP (Extended Play) as a solo artist, the self-titled “Richie Campbell”, as well as his independently produced debut album, “My Path”. His earlier works were mostly in the reggae genre, influenced by such artists as Tarrus Riley and Garnett Silk.
2011 saw a historic Richie Campbell concert. He was the first artist to sell out the Campo Pequeno Bullring, a famous arena in Lisbon, Portugal which holds 10,000 people, without being signed by a label. Naturally, he wasn’t without a contract for long: he was eventually signed by Sony Music. His first professionally produced album came out in December 2012, with the title “Focused”. It became a hit, the standout track on it, “That's How We Roll”, was even nominated for an award at the 2013 Golden Globes awards.
Since then, Campbell has released 3 more albums, thus he has 5 in total. His fourth one, “In the 876” rose to the top of the Portuguese iTunes chart within two hours of its release in May 2015, even without any promotion. The latest new Richie Campbell album came out in December 2017, with the title “Lisboa”.
The biggest hits in the Ritchie Campbell setlist to date are “Do You No Wrong” (2016), “Slowly” (2017), “Water” (2017) featuring Slow J and Lhast, and “Heaven” (also 2017). If you go to a Richie Campbell concert, you can expect more dancehall and R&B music than reggae. Also, all of his songs are still written in his second language, English.
Richie Campbell does not have any upcoming tour dates.
