My Chemical Romance Concerts Setlist

My Chemical Romance, often abbreviated to “MCR” or “My Chem”, is an American rock/punk band. They were founded in 2001 in Newark, New Jersey. The founding members were lead singer Gerard Way (born in 1977 in Summit, New Jersey), guitarist Ray Toro (1977, Kearny, New Jersey), and drummer Matt Pelissier (1977, Summit, New Jersey).

Way decided to start the band shortly after witnessing the 9/11 attacks in New York. The band later referenced the tragic events in their 2002 song “Skylines and Turnstiles”. He recruited drummer Pelissier and guitarist Toro to join his endeavor. While Way himself did play the guitar, he could not play it and sing at the same time sufficiently. The band’s name is based on a short story collection titled “Ecstasy: Three Tales of Chemical Romance” by Irvine Welsh.

They recorded two songs as a demo tape in Pelissier’s attic. Those songs were good enough to warrant a contract with the independent record label Eyeball Records. In July 2002, they released their debut album with the wordy title “I Brought You My Bullets, You Brought Me Your Love”.

By that time, the MCR line-up welcomed the addition of bassist Mikey Way. The album became a moderate success - not in the US, however, but in the United Kingdom. There, it charted at the #31 spot on OCC’s Independent Albums list, and #129 on the overall albums list.

Their second studio album, “Three Cheers for Sweet Revenge” from June 2004, performed a lot better in terms of sales in the band’s home country, the US. It peaked at the #28 spot on the famous Billboard 200 list.

Since then, My Chemical Romance has released two more albums, thus they have 4 in total. The best selling among them has been their third one, “The Black Parade”, having sold 1.5 million copies in the US alone and 4 million worldwide. Their latest project came out in November 2010, with another lengthy name, “Danger Days: The True Lives of the Fabulous Killjoys”.

There is a reason the band hasn't put out a new My Chemical Romance album in such a long time. While they were reportedly working on their fifth record in February 2012, it never came out. In March 2013, the band announced their official breakup through their website. While no reason was given by the members for their major decision, frontman Way firmly denied that there was any altercation between the bandmates.

In 2019, MCR announced that they are going on a My Chemical Romance concert reunion tour from December 2019 all the way to 2023. Their current line-up consists of co-founders Way and Toro, as well as bassist Mikey Way, Gerard Way’s brother, and rhythm guitarist Frank Iero.

MCR’s biggest hits to date are “Helena” (2004), “I’m Not Okay (I Promise)” (also 2004), “Welcome to the Black Parade” (2006), and “Teenagers” (also 2006).
